"If I could go back in time and do the whole experience again, good and bad, I would do it in a heartbeat because the sense of pride and accomplishment that I felt after the trip was remarkable. There was a sense of family when we left to go home that will also stay with me for a long, long time."

PRINCIPLES OF THE SERVICE LEARNING CYCLE: Service Learning occurs when students perform a valuable service for a community while learning important skills and reflecting on how the experience relates to themselves and the world at large.
• PREPARE: Along with a willing community, determine a needed and valuable service that can be performed. Take advantage of the skills and resources that you bring and have available in the community.
• PERFORM: In collaboration with community members, perform the service. Make meaningful connections and take on real-life issues as you work on a challenging and engaging project.
• REFLECT: Through discussions, introspection, and sharing activities, reflect on the service with your group and the community. Connect the experience to the larger world and develop ways to incorporate what you have learned into your everyday life.

NOTE: Bob Belenky is the inspiration and guide for the development on our Bridge Russia program; (he even traveled with our program the first season in 2004.)  Explore his site to learn more about his work with orphanages in Russia and Haiti.

Program components are subject to change.
