The 7 Wonders of the world were selected from a remarkable pool of possibilities and Mountains, deserts and rivers. Modern cities, rural villages, monastaries and marketplaces. Trekking, rafting, camel riding- even living with a host family in Ladakh. Join this exceptional trip designed and lead by Indian members of our core Bridge Northern India students will:
Projected 2009 Itinerary: Day 1: Arrive in Delhi: recuperate after a long journey. Days 2-3: Explore Delhi: visit The Red Fort, The Mina Bazaar, and the India Gate. Come together as a group that will share four weeks on the road, and begin to get grounded in India! Day 4: Travel to Agra for an evening visit to the TAJ MAHAL. Days 5-6: Travel to Jaipur, a fascinating city, rich in history and culture. Days 7-8: Travel from Jaipur to Delhi. Explore the markets before catching our bus to the Himalayas. Days 9-10: Arrive in Manali. Take time for the body and mind to acclimatize to the high altitudes. Acclimatization is one of the most important components of any trip to the high altitudes, and we will not rush this process! Take walks up and down the hilly slopes of Himalayan foothills and visit temples, markets, other places of interest. Day 11: Head North! Experience the dramatic change as you cross the Rohtang pass (13,050 ft.) and enter the amazing Lahual valley. Arrive in Keylong in the afternoon. Day 12: From Keylong, travel to Serchu via Baralacha La (pass) at an an astonishing altitude of 16500 ft. Cross Bharatpur La to reach our campsite at Serchu by evening. Spend the night in Swiss tents. Day 13: Start early with packed lunch and drive to Tso Kar via Nakee La and Lachulung La (16,617 ft.). En-route, we stop at Pang as we enter Kashmir. Travel through the Morey plains and experience the incredible, ever-changing, cold desert scenery. Spend the night in Alpine tents. Day 14: Visit Tso Kar, a breathtaking high-altitude lake, home to many rare species of birds and other wildlife. Continue to Leh, the capital of Ladakh, via Tanglang La (17,585 ft.) Sleep in a hotel! Day 15: Rest day. Enjoy a leisurely walk around Leh. Visit Shanti Stupa and Leh Fort. Day 16: Travel to Pangong Tso via Chang La (17,350 ft). This will be one of the highlights of the Ladakh Experience: Pangong Lake lies at a altitude of 14,500ft, with blue-green shades of tranquil water, surrounded on all sides by high, snow-capped mountains. Sleep in Alpine tents at Pangong Tso. Day 17: Begin the journey back to Leh. Visit Hemis and Thiksey Gompa Monastery along the way. Day 18: Travel to the Nubra valley via Khardung La, driving on the Highest Motorable Road on Planet Earth. Reach Nubra Valley for lunch. Explore Deskit and Hunder villages for rest of the day. Ride two-humped camels over the sand dunes. Spend the night at a Guest House in Nubra. Day 19: Complete the journey back to Leh. Check into hotel and prepare for 3 days of trekking. Day 20-22: Alpine Trekking. Overnight with Homestay families. Day 23: Return to Leh. Rest day. Begin group closure activities. Day 24: Top off the India trip with a white water rafting adventure on the Indus River. Day 25: Fly to Delhi for the connecting flight back home! Program Details: Dates: 6/30-7/24 |
