2010 Camp Updates

Cabin Six Reborn

Our pine trees were harvested and milled on site, crafted piece by piece like a jigsaw puzzle, and constructed into another of Bob Cleland’s masterpieces.  In spite of the cold winter days and many snowstorms Cabin 6 is emerging, a sibling of the new camp store, and the Windsor Mountain campus continues to startle with craftsmanship.  It will be a memorable luxury for the lucky few who
spend the summer in Cabin 6.

Mountain Biking

The Yellow Dot Trail has been renovated and boasts log ramps and bridges that would make any mountain biker’s feet twitch.  The “Abandoned Road” leads the daring from campus to the Red Pine Forest and beyond to Hidden Lake and even to Bacon Ledge.  Fox State Forest offers a local network of trails that can be enjoyed on foot- but are even more exciting on a mountain bike.  We are very excited to let you all know that this summer 2010 Windsor Mountain’s mountain biking program will be energized with a fleet of new mountain bikes!  We hope that whether you are salivating to ride challenging yellow dot, beat the hill to Bacon Ledge or meander through Fox Forest, you’ll sign up for a mountain biking class.  See you at the bike shed this summer!

Camp Store Items

We're working hard on items for the Camp Store 2010, and are excited about some new designs for tee shirts, zippered hoodies and other goodies. Our 2010 Camp Mascot is MOOSE (see photo at left), and we're happy to be bringing back our warm fleece blanket, which sold out rapidly last season. We'll send you an update when 2010 items are in (later in April), and you can order on-line. And remember, for your own convenience, you can order items to be held for your camper's arrival.

Love Food Hate Waste

Back in 2008 as part of our Environmental Theme for the summer Danny ran a class called Enviro Police Academy. A number of campers signed up to learn about how we could have a positive impact on the environment, and then came up with ways to help educate fellow campers and friends back home. One idea that came out of the class was the “Love Food, Hate Waste” campaign! The budding Enviro police designed their own stickers, made posters and banners and even staged a march around camp to raise awareness about food waste!
The campaign has now made its way to Europe with an organization in the UK setting up their own campaign www.lovefoodhatewaste.com.
Please send Danny your own ideas and tips about how to LOVE FOOD, HATE WASTE, and we’ll post them this summer, and spread the word.
